Tired of using cold spoons under your eyes? I’m thinking of another college roommate’s life hack as I write this post…kinda like the teeth whitening trick from the C&C Molr post! She always put spoons in the freezer when she knew she was going to have a late study night. Because really…nothing says procrastination better than giant bags under your eyes!
Cold spoons seemed to do the trick, but there’s a few issues…
- When did you ever actually remember to put spoons in the freezer? Answer: likely never.
- You literally have a 30-second window when the spoons are at the ideal temperature.
- The spoons don’t magically stay in place…so now you waste precious minutes holding spoons to your eyes. #NotCute
There Has to Be a Better Way
Oh, there is a much better way, my friends. Let me introduce you to these trendy little under-eye gels that are literally ALL over popular bloggers’ insta stories: Honest Hazel.
Filled with powerful ingredients, these eye gels seem much more promising than any home remedy. Each gel is contains:
- Cactus Collagen…which increases skin elasticity, improves circulation and reduces puffiness.
- Aloe Vera, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E…which all work to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, while soothing away your stresses.
- Arbutin….which combats dark circles and hyperpigmentation.
I don’t know about you, but those ingredients sound much better than that stainless steel spoon I’ve been using.

How I Used Them
Use those tired eyes and read the directions. I know, I know…reading directions in the wee hours of the morning is far from ideal but if you don’t, you’ll miss a crucial step. After you open up the package take the gels and wipe of the excess liquid back into the trays. (They have a convenient video on their website to better show this!) Personally, I took some of the excess liquid and dabbed it in all around my eyes, including my eyelids. I didn’t like the idea of all those precious ingredients going to waste!
You have to remove the excess liquid so the gels stick under your eyes without adjusting! These should stay on for a minimum of 20-25 minutes (but also could be used as an overnight treatment!). So, if you’re planning on doing your hair, making breakfast or even walking the dogs…they’ll stay in place. Major perk! No spoon holding here.
There’s something about these Honest Hazel eye gels that just has me feeling all types of relaxed. The cool burst of aloe vera, mixed with the slight weight of the gels just instantly calms me.
Although soothing and calming, I don’t think Honest Hazel will be replacing spa trips anytime soon. For the price, though, they’re a good mini substitute!
Wake Up and Reach for Honest Hazel?
After using the products right after waking up, I noticed puffiness reduction immediately after taking them off! So after long nights or weeks that just drag, it would be really nice to wake up and reach for Honest Hazel.
That being said, I don’t think I would buy these regularly or incorporate them fully into my routine. Even at the largest pack and best price-per-unit (25 sets for $78), that’s still $3.12 per pack. That’s a lot of moolah! A lot of moolah that I don’t have for eye gels.
How Claudia Used Them
I did not use my tired eyes…and did not read the instructions. Oops!
I woke up the morning after Thanksgiving feeling pretty “ugh-y”…wine, LOTS of (delish) food and extra sweets were not doing my poor, tired eyes any favors. The under-eye puffiness was very real. So I ran to my cabinet and pulled out a pack of Honest Hazel eye gels. These little guys had to help somehow!
Clearly, my tired eyes were in no mood to read instructions. “Place under eyes…yada yada…leave on for 20-25 minutes…okay, got it.” I took the gels out, placed them under my eyes and went straight back to bed to close my eyes for those glorious 25 minutes.
As I laid there, I felt the gels sliding all over my face. How in the world was I ever supposed to leave these on overnight?! And how did those insta bloggers manage to walk around airports and run errands with them on? I immediately texted Sam to report my disappointment…she had to have experienced the same slipperiness!
Sam – “You’re supposed to take the excess liquid off the gels and rub under your eyes before you place them on so they stick better!”
Me – “OHHH! Oops.”
Perfect Gift For Beauty Lovers
After using the gels a few times (correctly and without slippage), I agree with Sam that these are likely not going to be a recurring purchase for me.
Even though I love the way they make my eyes feel – cool, calm and collected – I don’t think I’ll continue to spend $12 for a pack of 3, unless it was a special occasion.
I originally bought these for my bridesmaids proposal boxes…everyone can use a little under-eye treatment from time to time! And, in my opinion, these Honest Hazel gels were great gifts! Any beauty lover in your life will appreciate the ability to pamper themselves without spending the money to go to the spa.
Like Sam said, these are a great mini-spa substitute!
The Results
Honest Hazel opened our eyes (literally and figuratively) to a world without frozen spoons. It’s a beautifully luxurious world. But also a luxurious world that our wallets can’t quite afford just yet (or maybe ever?).
Girls night in? Morning of a big day? Sure, spend a little extra and treat yo’ self. (All my bridesmaids, you best believe we’ll have these the day of the wedding!) Other than that? I’m not sure these gels are worth the pretty penny.
So Honest Hazel will be receiving a 5/10 in our eyes because they’re effective but not realistic!
Speaking of treat yo’ self…did anyone else select those gold eye gels in your FabFitFun box? We can’t wait to get our winter box and see how they compare!
