Hormones, changing seasons and fluctuating stress levels leave us looking for the best products for breakouts.
Unfortunately, some of these breakout-busting products leave us asking for more, while others become our holy grail! All prodcuts aside, though, there are a few things unrelated to products that Claudia and I have found help with avoiding breakouts in the first place:
- Staying hydrated! Drink at least half of your weight in ounces of water every day.
- Focus on eating whole, clean foods as much as you can. But don’t stress if you want to eat something unhealthy 🙂
- Keep your bedding clean! We both opt to wash our sheets once per week.
That said, breakouts still happen. So when they do, give some of our go-to products a try!
Best Products for Breakouts: Cleansers
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Medicated Gel Cleanser
If you’re looking for an easy, go-to face wash that won’t break the bank, look no further! With 2% salicylic acid, this cleanser is a no-brainer when it comes to busting breakouts.
Note: salicilyc acid is not safe if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
VERSED Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm
- Price: $17.99
- Shop: Target
We highly, highly recommend using a double cleansing routine if you are breakout-prone! It’s amazing how much dirt and debris gets stuck in your pores without a two-step routine. You could use this cleansing balm first to remove makeup, dirt, sweat, oil, etc. and then cleanse with the La Roche-Posay cleanser above to make sure your pores are SUPER clean.
Best Products for Breakouts: Serums
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
When it comes to treating breakouts, you can’t go wrong with niacinamide. Actually, niacinamide is great for just about everyone! Plus, The Ordinary is great for affordable, straight-to-the-point products that really freaking work.
VERSED Press Restart Gentle Retinol Serum
- Price: $21.99
- Shop: Target
Claudia swears by this new addition to her routine! While some retinols can be too strong, this serum is the perfect balance for her skin. Since she’s incorporated it, she’s had major results! Any breakouts calm down overnight after one use. If you’re looking for more VERSED reviews, check this out!
Note: retinol is not safe if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. I recommend using the Cocokind Overnight Resurfacing Mask as a safe alternative. It’s main active ingredient is bakuchiol (a natural alternative to retinol).
Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum
- Price: $90
- Shop: Sephora
Alright, so this one is the priciest on the list…that’s for sure! But man, oh man, guys, Drunk Elephant really freakin’ works. When I was dealing with regular acne, I used this every other night and my acne vanished. So it was worth that hefty pricetag for me! It has an AHA/BHA blend that will seriously clear out those pesky pores.
Best Products for Breakouts: Spot Treatments
Cocokind Turmeric Tonic
- Price: $11
- Shop: Cocokind
The natural breakout-fighting ingredients in this spot treatment will have you so grateful! While there is obviously turmeric in this, there’s also tea tree, witch hazel and other acne-fighting ingredients that will have your breakout calming down super quickly. The best thing about this spot treatment is it is invisible so you can wear it day or night without worry!
Best Products for Breakouts: Masks
Cocokind Sea Kale Clay Mask
- Price: $18
- Shop: Cocokind
If you love a good clay mask, but don’t love how they dry out your face, you’re going to love this mask. Honestly, this is my all-time favorite mask EVER now. That’s saying a lot. It’s super gentle so you can use it as often as you want! It calms your breakouts, but also hydrates and restores the rest of your skin. It’s a win-win!
Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial
- Price: $80
- Shop: Sephora
Again, this is another pricey, yet effective, product from Drunk Elephant. If you have breakouts that you can’t seem to get under control, this mask is well worth the price. It really freaking works. In fact, I used this before my wedding to get my skin in tip-top shape instead of putting that money toward a one-time spa facial. No regrets there!
